Jesus Prays - John 17 - service scripture

Updated: Mar 31

Jesus lifts up his eyes to heaven to pray. Jesus knew where He was going, and how he would get there. He belonged with His Father but the struggle was to get his disciples there - forgiven and holy, as part of the family. That was going to cost him dearly, but He was up to it.

Jesus prays for us, for all that will believe, not that they will be taken from the rejection, pain and suffering in the world - but that they will be kept from evil in the world. The world is not left without a witness when Jesus goes to the cross. Jesus prays for his people to be 'kept' - sanctified and made holy - in the world. This weeks scripture, pt 2:

Jesus sets himself apart (sanctifies himself) for God's work. If even Jesus did that, without any sin, how much more do we need to dedicate ourselves? For Jesus it would be hard and bloody work - the way of the cross. He does this to include and bless everyone who would believe and trust Him. This weeks scripture, pt 3:
